The Lagos State Government has announced the return of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise, set to commence on April 25, 2026, as part of renewed efforts to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who confirmed that the exercise will now hold on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

The initiative was symbolically relaunched at Idi Oro in Mushin Local Government Area, signaling the government’s commitment to improving public hygiene and tackling environmental challenges across the state.

Wahab called on residents to actively participate by cleaning their immediate surroundings, clearing blocked drainage systems, and ensuring proper waste disposal. He stressed that maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility that requires consistent public cooperation.

According to the commissioner, the sanitation exercise is vital for building a healthier and more flood resilient city, especially in a densely populated urban centre like Lagos. He added that authorities will enforce compliance strictly, warning that residents and businesses must adhere to the guidelines during the sanitation hours.

The reintroduction of the exercise reflects growing concerns over waste management, flooding, and public health risks, particularly during the rainy season. By reinstating the monthly cleanup, the government aims to instill discipline, reduce environmental hazards, and improve overall living conditions.

Residents are therefore encouraged to support the initiative fully, as officials emphasize that sustained participation will play a key role in achieving a cleaner and safer Lagos.
