Lagos Police Arrest Popular Influencer “Peller” Over Viral Reckless Driving Incident

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained 20 year old social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video that showed him driving recklessly while livestreaming on social media. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, reportedly led to a serious road crash that endangered his life and that of other road users.

According to the police, the act was not only reckless but also constituted an attempted suicide, given the deliberate nature of the dangerous driving displayed in the video. Authorities said the livestreamed stunt posed a grave threat to public safety and violated traffic and criminal laws.

The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation. Police confirmed that once investigations are concluded, the findings will be made public and the suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the law.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and content creators. He cautioned against using online platforms to promote or engage in dangerous, unlawful or life threatening acts in the pursuit of views or fame.

The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and urged all road users to strictly obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives and property.
