The Lagos State Government has confiscated 70 commercial motorcycles during a routine clean up enforcement exercise across major restricted routes on the Island axis of the state.

The operation, which took place on Wednesday, began at about 9:30 a.m., according to a statement posted on X on Thursday by the Ministry of Transportation. The statement was signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

According to the ministry, the enforcement exercise covered key locations including Falomo Underbridge, Marina, Coastal Road, Ajah Roundabout, Ogombo, Igboefon, Abraham Adesanya Junction and 2nd Rainbow. The operation was aimed at enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycles on highways and addressing other activities that threaten public safety.

The statement noted that the exercise focused on the highway restriction on commercial motorcycles, street trading, illegal parking, unapproved bus stops and other infractions disrupting traffic flow and public order.

“As a result of the enforcement, seventy (70) motorcycles were confiscated, restoring calm, order and free traffic flow across the affected corridors,” the ministry said.

On the fate of the seized motorcycles, the government disclosed that all confiscated bikes would be forfeited to the state through the courts, in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

The Ministry of Transportation expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation during the operation, reiterating its commitment to ensuring safety, orderliness and seamless movement across the state’s transport network.

The latest exercise comes amid intensified enforcement by the Lagos State Taskforce against illegal commercial motorcycle operations. In a recent coordinated operation across major corridors in the state, the taskforce reportedly impounded 134 motorcycles in areas including Obalende, CMS Roundabout, Coastal Road, Falomo Underbridge, 2nd Rainbow and along the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway.
