The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is missing or absent from his constitutional duties, insisting that the president remains fully engaged in the affairs of governance.

The party’s response followed recent comments by the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, who raised concerns about the president’s visibility amid Nigeria’s economic and security challenges. Obi had questioned the president’s whereabouts and alleged prolonged absence from the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, the party described such claims as misleading and unnecessary. The statement, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, stressed that President Tinubu continues to actively discharge his responsibilities both within and outside Nigeria.

Oladejo noted that governance should not be judged by constant public appearances or media engagements, but by the quality of decisions, policies, and outcomes delivered in the national interest. According to him, Tinubu remains deeply involved in critical areas such as policy coordination, security oversight, economic reforms, and diplomatic engagements.

“The president is not missing, nor is he absent from his constitutional responsibilities,” Oladejo said. “He is actively involved in the complex and demanding work of statecraft.”

He added that Tinubu’s schedule is driven by national priorities rather than political optics or commentary, emphasizing that the administration remains active on multiple fronts, including economic restructuring, security coordination, and international diplomacy aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and global relevance.

The APC spokesman further urged political actors to engage more constructively by offering practical ideas and alternatives that could contribute to national development, rather than making statements that may heighten public anxiety.

The rebuttal comes after Obi alleged that Tinubu spent 196 days outside Nigeria in 2025 and claimed that Nigerians had not heard directly from the president since December of that year. Tinubu is currently in Abu Dhabi, where he is attending the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week at the invitation of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
