Lagos APC Claims 20 Years of Work has Made the State’s Security System a Model

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State says the state now has the strongest sub-national security system in Nigeria after two decades of steady reform and funding.

In a statement, the party spokesman Mr Seye Oladejo said Lagos proved that lasting security comes from steady planning, firm political will and close cooperation between many groups. He noted the security setup began under former Governor Bola Tinubu and continued under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and has kept the state calm despite its large population and busy economy.

Oladejo said, “Lagos stands today as the gold standard of what purposeful leadership can achieve.” He added, “From Tinubu to Sanwo-Olu, we have seen security treated not as rhetoric but as deliberate and sustained action.”

The spokesman pointed to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, saying, “Through LSSTF, we have built a structure unmatched by any other state,” and he credited public and private money for giving security teams patrol cars, equipment and cameras.

He said the government has added tech tools to policing, including surveillance cameras, crime mapping and smart city sensors. He also said local leaders and community groups now help share tips and watch for threats, and “The community has become a full partner in maintaining vigilance.”

Oladejo highlighted stronger teamwork between the police, military and intelligence units, and said state agencies like the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency, LASTMA and the Federal Road Safety Corps also join efforts. He praised LASEMA for building a fast response unit for fires and big emergencies.

He said steady leadership allowed policies to improve over time without turning security into a political fight. He said, “This is why Lagos is fully ready for state police whenever the constitution permits it” and added, “While some states are still debating structures, Lagos already operates an intelligence driven framework that can be scaled seamlessly.”

Oladejo credited early planning by Tinubu and ongoing upgrades under Sanwo-Olu. He said Lagos chose steady work over politics while some opposition figures tried to make national security a political issue. “As President and Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu is implementing major reforms. Lagos remains the reference point for how federal and sub-national synergy can work,” he said.

He urged other states to study the Lagos approach and copy what works, since Nigeria needs joined-up local and national efforts that last beyond election cycles.
