Lady Gaga has emerged as the leading nominee for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), securing 12 nominations and ending Taylor Swift’s two-year reign at the top. Gaga’s nods span major categories, including Artist, Song, Video, and Album of the Year, as well as technical categories like Visual Effects and Cinematography.
Bruno Mars follows closely with 11 nominations, while Kendrick Lamar has earned 10. Other notable contenders include Sabrina Carpenter and Blackpink’s ROSÉ, each with eight nominations, and Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, each with seven.
The Artist of the Year category features a competitive lineup: Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd. Beyoncé and Swift are tied for the most VMAs in history, each with 30 awards. A win in this category would set a new record for the most-awarded musician in VMA history.
Gaga’s collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With A Smile,” is among the contenders for Video of the Year. Other nominees in this category include Grande’s “Brighter Days Ahead,” Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” ROSÉ and Mars’ “APT.,” Carpenter’s “Manchild,” and The Weeknd and Playboi Carti’s “Timeless.”
The 2025 VMAs will introduce two new categories: Best Country and Best Pop Artist. Additionally, 33 first-time nominees have been announced, including a posthumous nod for Mac Miller. Fan voting is open through September 5, with the awards ceremony scheduled to air live on CBS from the UBS Arena near New York City on September 7.
