The Senator Nenadi Usman-led interim leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has strongly rebuked Barrister Julius Abure for allegedly parading himself as the party’s National Chairman despite the April 4, 2025 Supreme Court judgement and a clear position by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejecting his claim.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by the Interim National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the party accused Abure of impersonation and called on the Prosecutor-General of the Federation to fast-track action on recommendations for his prosecution over alleged offences.

The statement was a response to an earlier release by Abure, in which he argued that INEC’s refusal to upload Labour Party aspirants for the February Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections, as well as the Supreme Court judgement, were being misinterpreted.

Reacting, the interim leadership declared that “the Labour Party is not for sale,” accusing Abure and his associates of attempting to commercialise the party’s structure for personal gain. It further alleged that Abure and his loyalists had become “vexatious and abusive litigants,” having reportedly filed over 20 court cases against INEC and the current Labour Party leadership across several courts.

According to the statement, this conduct amounts to an abuse of court processes and a deliberate attempt to plunge the party into crisis and undermine democratic progress. The Usman-led leadership also dismissed Abure’s claim that INEC had “moved on” with his continued impersonation, stressing that the electoral body merely reiterated existing court judgements that had removed him from office.

The party further alleged that INEC refused access codes to Abure in compliance with court rulings, citing claims that he illegally collected money from individuals under the guise of securing candidacies for the FCT elections.

Reaffirming unity, the interim leadership said the Labour Party remains committed to justice, equity and good governance under the leadership of Dr. Alex Otti, Senator Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha, urging members to remain steadfast ahead of 2027.
