Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take strong and decisive action against corruption, warning that no government can survive without confronting graft directly.

In a statement released on Friday, December 26, 2025, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, Abure criticized Nigeria’s ruling class for lacking empathy and selflessness. He argued that resources hoarded by a few could have been used to improve schools, hospitals, and infrastructure across the country.

“Nigeria can only get better when leaders have empathy for the common Nigerians by exhibiting selflessness. This will bring to an end primitive acquisition of wealth by a few individuals, resources that would have helped in putting needed infrastructure, building schools and hospitals, amongst others,” Abure said.

He urged President Tinubu to use the symbol of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) broom, to sweep away corruption in Nigeria. “No government can survive until corruption is fought to a standstill,” he declared.

Drawing inspiration from the humility and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, Abure noted that such qualities are largely missing in today’s Nigerian leadership. He also called on leaders to emulate the sacrificial attributes of Nigeria’s founding fathers, including Malam Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and Malam Aminu Kano, warning that without this, Nigeria will continue to face struggles.

Addressing public concerns about insecurity, Abure praised the efforts of security agencies during the festive season. “I praise the gallantry efforts of our servicemen, the State Security Services and every other paramilitary group for ensuring that peace prevails within this season,” he said, adding that the military must be properly motivated to sustain its operations.

Finally, Abure called on Nigerians to pray for better security and governance, emphasizing that progress depends on leaders who serve with empathy and selflessness.
