Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former governor of Kano State, has warned that the Federal Government is slowly losing its grip on the country’s growing security problems.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Kwankwaso said the situation has reached a point where the government seems unable to respond properly. He pointed to the growing use of state backed vigilante groups, many without proper training, as a sign that the government is struggling to control the crisis.

He also said that this has encouraged private citizens to form their own armed groups, which he believes could make things worse.

Kwankwaso stressed that the rise of unregulated security groups is dangerous. He said it could lead to more illegal weapons in circulation and weaken the country’s stability. According to him, these actions go against efforts to keep the peace and could cause more tension if not addressed.

He also spoke about what he called a worrying increase in ethnic and regional profiling. He mentioned recent cases where people, especially from certain parts of the country, have faced harassment, random arrests, and mistreatment in areas where they live or travel.

He linked this to growing online hate fueled by ethnic and religious divisions.

Kwankwaso called on the Federal Government to act quickly to stop these trends, warning that ignoring them could lead to deeper divisions in the country.

As someone who once led the Committee on the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, he said the free movement of weapons across Nigeria is both alarming and unacceptable.

He ended by congratulating General Christopher Gwabin Musa on becoming the new Minister of Defence and said he believes the general, with strong support from the government, can help bring back order and improve national security.
