A political change is taking shape in Northern Nigeria, with increasing signs of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s potential re-election campaign in 2027. Dr. Musa Illyasu Kwankwaso, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has observed what he describes as a form of enthusiasm for the president across the region.

Speaking to journalists in Kano, Kwankwaso noted that recent developments and political engagements in the North reflect a renewed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership. He emphasized that the president’s appeal is transcending party lines, uniting various political factions under a shared vision.

He talked about the overwhelming reception given to Defence Minister Bello Matawalle during a recent visit to Zamfara State as a clear indicator of this trend. According to Kwankwaso, the turnout—reportedly in the millions—demonstrated the deep-rooted support for both Matawalle and the Tinubu administration.

“Matawalle’s enduring connection with the grassroots has been instrumental in galvanizing support for the president,” Kwankwaso said. He urged other northern leaders to follow Matawalle’s example by staying engaged with their constituents and championing the administration’s achievements.

Kwankwaso also called on northern appointees to step up efforts in educating their communities about the benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as a transformative initiative delivering tangible improvements across the nation.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, Kwankwaso believes the North is set to play a decisive role in shaping the country’s political future and that President Tinubu is gaining traction as a unifying figure in the region.
