Former presidential candidate and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, held a closed-door meeting with Seyi Makinde at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, fueling speculation over possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso, the NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections and former Governor of Kano State, was accompanied by senior party officials including National Chairman Dr Ajuji Ahmed, National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson, and Secretary of the Board of Trustees Buba Galadima. The delegation was in Oyo State to inaugurate the NNPP state office and discuss internal party matters.

Despite the high-profile nature of the visit, Kwankwaso emphasized the meeting was a courtesy call based on personal friendship with Makinde rather than cross-party politics. He recalled his political journey, noting his founding role in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998, his two tenures as Governor of Kano State under the PDP, and his service as Minister of Defence, before later joining the All Progressives Congress and eventually leading the NNPP.
