Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has stirred conversation on social media after drawing a comparison between the award presentation process at the Academy Awards and the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

The actor made the remark on his Instagram story on Monday while reacting to a viral clip of Michael B Jordan watching his Oscar statuette being engraved immediately after his victory at the 2026 ceremony.

Jordan won the Best Actor award for his performance in the film Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler. The film reportedly earned multiple nominations during the ceremony, and Jordan’s victory marked his first Oscar win.

Sharing his reaction, Remi expressed admiration for the engraving process at the Oscars, noting that winners receive their personalized trophies instantly.

“So happy for MBJ. So they engrave your name after you win right there. Take it home! If na AMVCA all of you will share one for the night then come back and collect it at the next award,” he wrote humorously.

Jordan’s win also placed him among the few Black actors to win the Best Actor category in the history of the Academy Awards. During his acceptance speech, the Hollywood star thanked Coogler and honored legendary actors Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington for paving the way for future generations of Black performers.

Remi’s comment reignited discussions among Nollywood fans about his previous absence from the AMVCA nomination list despite his acclaimed role as Saro in the film Anikulapo.

In 2023, his performance in the movie received widespread praise and the film itself secured multiple nominations at the awards. However, Remi’s omission from the Best Actor category surprised many fans and sparked debates across social media platforms.

At the time, the actor responded calmly, thanking fans for their support and congratulating colleagues who were nominated.

Meanwhile, organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards have officially closed submissions for the 12th edition of the ceremony, which is scheduled to take place in Lagos in May 2026.
