Kogi Receives Vaccines to Boost Livestock Health and Productivity

The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project has received its allocation of vaccines from the L PRES National Coordination Office in Abuja to support mass vaccination against major transboundary animal diseases across the state. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen animal health improve livestock productivity and enhance food safety and security in Nigeria.

The vaccines were officially received in Lokoja by the State Project Coordinator Mr Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza Otaru and handed over to the Commissioner for Livestock Development Dr Olufemi Bolarin. The development marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the L PRES Project in Kogi State.

Dr Bolarin praised the Federal Government for the timely intervention noting that the vaccines would benefit livestock farmers pastoralists poultry farmers and small ruminant farmers. According to him improved animal health will directly translate into increased livestock productivity and better livelihoods for farmers across the state.

Mr Otaru described the delivery as a critical intervention aimed at strengthening the livestock sector. He disclosed that the consignment includes 200000 doses of CBPP vaccines 30000 doses of Newcastle Disease vaccines and 3000 doses of Foot and Mouth Disease vaccines. He added that the vaccines would be administered across 64 value chain clusters in all 21 local government areas of Kogi State.

The Project Coordinator further explained that the vaccines would be stored in a modern cold chain facility established by the Kogi L PRES Project at the Ministry of Livestock Development to ensure quality and effectiveness. He also expressed appreciation to the National Project Coordinator Dr Sanusi Abubakar for his continued support and leadership.

Delivering the vaccines on behalf of the national office the Legal Adviser of the L PRES Project Barrister Ken Agim said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s drive to boost the livestock sector nationwide. He noted that the vaccines are being distributed to all states and the FCT and are expected to improve productivity resilience and economic contribution of the livestock industry.
