Britain’s monarch King Charles III has said that the law must take its course following the arrest of his brother, Prince Andrew, on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, the King stressed that the matter would be handled through a full and proper investigative process. He said the appropriate authorities would conduct their work with the full support and cooperation of the royal family, adding that it would not be right for him to comment further while the investigation continues.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that a man in his sixties from Norfolk had been arrested and that searches were carried out at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk. Although police declined to name the suspect in line with United Kingdom guidance, reports indicate that officers were seen at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate, Andrew’s current residence, early Thursday morning.

Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said a formal investigation had been opened following an assessment of allegations of misconduct in public office. Norfolk Police is supporting the inquiry.

The arrest follows claims that Andrew, during his time as the United Kingdom trade envoy, may have shared confidential government reports with late financier Jeffrey Epstein. The allegations reportedly stem from correspondence released by the United States Department of Justice as part of disclosures related to Epstein.

Andrew has consistently denied wrongdoing. His past association with Epstein previously led to public scrutiny, including a widely criticised 2019 interview with BBC Newsnight. In 2022, he stepped back from royal duties and was stripped of military titles and patronages following a civil lawsuit.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated that nobody is above the law as investigations continue.
