Kenya Expands Drought Relief Programs as Dry Conditions Persist

Kenyan officials confirmed on January 31 2026 an expansion of drought relief programs as prolonged dry conditions continue to affect food security and livelihoods across several regions. The government said additional resources would be directed toward food assistance water access and support for pastoral communities.

Authorities reported that low rainfall has reduced crop yields and strained livestock health leading to rising prices and income losses. The expanded programs include cash transfers emergency water trucking and nutritional support for vulnerable households. County governments are coordinating with national agencies to reach affected communities.
