Kano State Assembly Adopts 700 Motions and Passes 15 Bills in 2025

The Kano State House of Assembly announced that it adopted over 700 motions and passed 15 bills between January and December 2025, highlighting efforts to strengthen governance and improve the welfare of residents.

Speaker Jibril Falgore, while reviewing the assembly’s activities for the 2025 legislative year, said the 10th assembly, comprising 40 members, remained proactive in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking, oversight, and representation. He noted that the leadership team, including the Deputy Speaker, Majority and Minority Leaders, Chief Whips, and the Clerk, worked in synergy to ensure effective coordination and administration.

Key legislations passed included the Kano State Geographical Information System Bill, Kano State Centre for Disease Control Bill, Kano State Electricity Bill, Kano State Security Bill, Kano State Social Protection Bill, Kano State Forensic Laboratory Bill, Kano State Neighbourhood Security Corps Law 2025, Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency Bill, and Motor Vehicle Administration Bill.

The assembly also deliberated on motions of urgent public importance, addressing insecurity in Tsanyawa and Bagwai local government areas, rural road rehabilitation, upgrading of primary healthcare centres, improvement of the Takai NYSC Clinic, and a review of the 2025 Nigeria Customs Service recruitment exercise. Standing committees conducted oversight visits to ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure transparency and proper implementation of the 2025 budget.

Falgore disclosed that the assembly screened two commissioner nominees, approved a supplementary budget of N 215.3 billion, and held a legislative retreat on constitutional review and effective oversight. He added that the renovation of the assembly complex, supported by Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, had reached over 75 percent completion and was expected to be inaugurated in early 2026.

The speaker also mourned the deaths of two lawmakers, Aminu Sa’adu-Ungogo and Alhaji Sarki Daneji, extending condolences to their families, constituencies, and the people of Kano State.
