The Kano State government has asked security agencies to arrest former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accusing him of making dangerous comments and trying to form an unauthorized security group in the state.
This decision came after the 34th State Executive Council meeting. The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, spoke to journalists after the meeting and explained the government’s position.
Waiya said Ganduje should be investigated for his possible connection to recent security issues in some parts of Kano. He warned that public figures must be careful with their words, especially when such statements could lead to unrest. He also assured residents that the government remains focused on keeping the state peaceful and secure.
He said, “The Council deliberated extensively over the recent inflammatory statements made by a former Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the Deputy Senate President, Barau I Jibrin, who alleged that the State is vulnerable to banditry and further announced plans to recruit 12,000 individuals under a proposed religious police outfit named Khairul Nas.”
According to Waiya, the Council believed these statements were reckless and could damage the efforts of both the state and federal governments to improve security. He noted that just two days after the remarks were made, there were reports of bandit attacks in border communities, raising suspicions about a possible connection.
The Council thanked the Federal Government and security agencies for their continued support and urged them to take immediate action by investigating and arresting Ganduje for his alleged role in trying to set up an illegal militia.
Waiya repeated the call for public figures to avoid making comments that could stir up trouble and said the government would keep working to protect lives and maintain order throughout Kano State.
