The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set an internally generated revenue target of N23.8 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, marking an increase of N4 billion compared to its 2025 projection. Out of the proposed IGR, the examination body said N6 billion would be remitted to the Federal Government’s federation account as operating surplus.

Presenting the 2026 revenue target and budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, Dr. Muftau Bello, a Director in the office of the Registrar, disclosed that JAMB proposed a total budget of N30.6 billion for the year. Bello explained that the N30.6 billion budget includes the N23.8 billion expected from internal revenue generation and the N6 billion to be remitted as operating surplus.

On its 2025 performance, Bello informed the committee, chaired by Senator Muntari Dandutse (APC, Katsina South), that JAMB generated N18.5 billion as IGR and remitted N4 billion to the federation account.

Speaking on preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Bello revealed that JAMB has created 1,000 examination centres, up from fewer than 800 in 2025. The committee members commended the board’s performance under Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede’s leadership.

However, Senator Yohanna Amos (Adamawa North) urged the board to consider reducing the examination fee from the current N3,500. Bello responded that the UTME fee was previously N5,000 before it was reduced by the current administration.

The board has continued to implement reforms to streamline examination processes and ensure wider access for candidates nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to efficiency and transparency in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
