Jake Paul secured a unanimous decision victory over former middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. in a 10-round cruiserweight bout at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, on June 28, 2025. The judges scored the fight 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93 in favor of Paul, marking his sixth consecutive win and improving his professional boxing record to 12-1
The 28-year-old Paul, who transitioned from a YouTube celebrity to a professional boxer, dominated the early rounds of the fight. He controlled the ring with patience and precision, landing effective punches while avoiding significant damage. Chávez, 39, appeared tentative throughout the bout, barely throwing a punch until late in the fourth round. Despite his father’s presence at ringside, Chávez struggled to find his rhythm, and his attacks lacked the intensity expected from a seasoned fighter.
In the later rounds, Chávez mounted a more consistent offensive, particularly in the sixth and ninth rounds, showcasing glimpses of his former prowess. However, these efforts were insufficient to overcome Paul’s early dominance. Paul celebrated his victory by climbing the ropes after absorbing several flurries in the final round, demonstrating his resilience and composure under pressure.
Following the fight, Paul expressed his desire to face tougher opponents, stating, “I want tougher fighters, I want to be world champion.” He called out notable boxers such as Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez, Badou Jack, Anthony Joshua, Gervonta Davis, and Tommy Fury, urging them to “stop running.”
Chávez acknowledged Paul’s strength and skill but questioned his readiness for championship-level competition, remarking, “He’s strong, a good boxer [for] the first three, four rounds. After that, I felt he was tired. I don’t think he’s ready for the champions, but he’s a good fighter.”
The event also featured other notable bouts, including Holly Holm’s return to boxing after a 12-year absence, where she dominated previously unbeaten Yolanda Guadalupe Vega Ochoa. Additionally, New Jersey welterweight Julian Rodriguez secured a thrilling victory in the final moments of the 10th round, knocking out Avious Griffin with a decisive left hand.
With this victory, Jake Paul continues to solidify his position in the boxing world, demonstrating his growth and determination as he sets his sights on more challenging opponents in the future.
