Italy has proposed the idea of nominating United States President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he successfully mediates an end to the war in Ukraine. The suggestion was made by Italian political figures amid renewed international efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

Supporters of the proposal argue that a breakthrough in Ukraine through direct mediation would represent one of the most significant peace achievements in Europe in decades. They say any leader who helps bring Moscow and Kyiv to a negotiated settlement deserves international recognition regardless of political controversies.

The proposal comes as the Trump administration intensifies its involvement in peace talks with Russian and Ukrainian negotiators meeting under US backed initiatives in the Middle East. While no agreement has been reached so far diplomats say dialogue has gained momentum compared to previous months.

Critics however caution that a Nobel nomination would be premature without a concrete ceasefire or lasting political settlement. They also note that the Nobel committee operates independently and is not influenced by government endorsements.

The comments from Italy highlight how closely global attention is focused on the Ukraine conflict and on whether current diplomatic efforts can deliver a meaningful and lasting peace.
