Israel defence ministry announced on Saturday that it had launched a preemptive strike against Iran, as sirens sounded in Jerusalem and residents across the country received emergency alerts warning of an extremely serious threat.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Defense said the State of Israel had initiated military action and declared a special and immediate state of emergency nationwide.

Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the development, stating that the emergency measures were necessary in light of escalating security concerns. The announcement followed widespread activation of air raid sirens in Jerusalem and other parts of the country, prompting civilians to seek shelter.

Authorities did not immediately disclose operational details or specific targets of the strike. However, the move signals a sharp escalation in tensions between Israel and Iran, long standing regional rivals whose shadow conflict has played out across multiple fronts in the Middle East.

Citizens received mobile phone alerts cautioning them about what officials described as an extremely serious threat, indicating the possibility of retaliatory action. Security forces were placed on high alert, and emergency protocols were activated nationwide.

There was no immediate response from Iranian authorities at the time of reporting. International observers are closely monitoring the situation amid fears that direct confrontation between the two countries could trigger broader regional instability.

Further updates are expected as more information becomes available about the scope of the strike and any potential fallout across the region.
