Iran Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has warned that recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian soil and the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will have deep and widespread consequences.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to Antonio Guterres and the United Nations Security Council, Araghchi said responsibility for the attacks lies solely with the perpetrators. The letter was sent a day after coordinated strikes reportedly hit Tehran and several other cities, resulting in the death of Iran top leader.

According to the state news agency Islamic Republic News Agency, the foreign minister described the military action as aggressive unprovoked and unjustified, accusing Washington and Tel Aviv of deliberately targeting the highest ranking official of an independent member state of the United Nations.

Araghchi characterized the killing as a cowardly terrorist action and a direct attack on the most fundamental principles of international law. He said the strikes violated the prohibition on the use of force, undermined the sovereign equality of states and breached the inviolability and immunity granted to heads of state under international norms.

He further warned that such actions create a precarious and unprecedented precedent that threatens the foundations of state sovereignty and civilized conduct among nations. The consequences, he stressed, could trigger dangerous and unforeseen problems across the region and beyond.

In the letter, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran inherent and inalienable right to defend its sovereignty territorial integrity and people in accordance with the United Nations Charter.
