Iran vowed at the United Nations on Monday that it would not submit to “lawless aggression” and said its citizens faced “grave danger” from United States and Israel military strikes.

Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Iran’s ambassador, Ali Bahreini, urged member states to focus on the ongoing Middle East war rather than domestic human rights issues, including the recent crackdown on protests in the country.

“The most urgent and fundamental human rights issue concerning Iran is the imminent threat to the lives of 90 million people under the shadow of reckless military aggression,” Bahreini said, describing the s as “carried out by some of the most lawless and unscrupulous actors on the international stage.”

He added that if “reckless militarism” were ignored, “Iran will most certainly not be the last country to suffer such treatment.” The ambassador reported that more than 1,300 people had been ed and over 7,000 injured since the February 28 US Israeli strikes began, including a missile on a school in Minab, which Washington says it is investigating.

Bahreini emphasized that Iran is a nation that does not submit to coercion, intimidation, or lawless aggression, asserting that Tehran would continue defending its sovereignty.

During the session, the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries plus Jordan condemned Iran’s s on their territories, citing threats to regional security and civilian lives.

The UN’s special rapporteur on Iran, Mai Sato, highlighted ongoing violations against protesters, including assaults on medical personnel, forced hospital reporting, and arrests of the wounded, describing a systemic violation of medical neutrality.

Sato further stated that US Israeli strikes remain unlawful regardless of their stated objectives and warned that the ongoing Middle East war is likely to exacerbate domestic repression in Iran, affecting civilians across the country.

The UN Human Rights Council continues to engage with the fact-finding mission on Iran to investigate the impact of both domestic and foreign actions on human rights, emphasizing accountability and protection for affected populations.
