International Holocaust Remembrance Day Observed Worldwide With Calls to Confront Hatred

Countries across the world marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, holding ceremonies, educational events and moments of silence to honor the six million Jews and millions of other victims ed by Nazi Germany during World War Two. The date commemorates the liberation of the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp in 1945.

Leaders, diplomats and survivors took part in memorial services in Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East. At the United Nations, officials emphasized the importance of remembrance and education, warning that Holocaust denial, distortion and antisemitism are rising in many parts of the world.
