The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied any involvement in a document making the rounds that claims it approved a decision by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to postpone its Ekiti State Congress and governorship primary.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, made it clear that the letter, dated November 10, 2025, did not come from the commission. She emphasized that the document was not issued by the secretary’s office or any official INEC platform.
According to the commission, early findings suggest that the signature on the letter was forged by what it described as “unscrupulous elements.”
INEC labeled the document as entirely fake and urged political parties, journalists, and the public to ignore its contents. The commission warned that spreading false documents is a serious offense and a calculated effort to deceive the public.
Calling the act “futile, criminal, and disruptive,” INEC urged those responsible to stop immediately, stressing the importance of protecting the credibility of the electoral process and maintaining peace.
The commission also confirmed that it is working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute those behind the forgery.
