Fresh allegations have emerged in the ongoing legal battle between twin sisters Ameena Indimi-Dalhatu and Zara Indimi and Oriental Energy Resources Limited, as the sisters move to enforce a Federal High Court judgment in their favour.

Court filings indicate that some commercial banks may have facilitated attempts to conceal funds belonging to Oriental, potentially undermining enforcement of the court’s order. The original case arose from a shareholders’ dispute in which the sisters claimed unpaid dividends totaling $43,510,000 from 2015. On 2 January 2026, Justice N.E. Maha of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ruled in favour of the sisters, adding interest at 10 percent per annum from the date of judgment until full settlement.

Following the judgment, the sisters initiated garnishee proceedings to attach Oriental’s accounts across multiple banks. On 13 February 2026, Justice P.O. Lifu ordered banks to identify and freeze all accounts linked to Oriental, including current, savings, fixed deposit, and domiciliary accounts.

Court documents allege that while some banks disclosed accounts, others either failed to disclose significant funds, allowed withdrawals in violation of the order, or relied on previously set aside garnishee orders from other jurisdictions. Plaintiffs’ counsel, Mr. Mene-Josiah, argued that these actions suggest possible collusion to frustrate enforcement of the judgment.

The court adjourned the matter to 16 April 2026, giving the banks time to respond to potential contempt proceedings. Meanwhile, Oriental has filed an appeal against the judgment and sought to set aside the garnishee order. Legal experts noted that banks ignoring garnishee orders risk contempt of court and serious legal consequences.

The case has drawn attention to the obligations of financial institutions in enforcing court judgments and the potential consequences of non-compliance.
