Indian security forces seized a massive cache of explosives in the western state of Rajasthan ahead of Republic Day celebrations, raising serious security concerns. Police said more than 10 000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate along with detonators were recovered during an operation conducted in the days leading up to the national holiday on January 26.
Officials said the seizure was made following intelligence inputs about suspicious movements and storage of hazardous materials. The operation led to the arrest of at least one suspect, while further investigations are underway to determine the intended use of the explosives and whether any organized network was involved.
Authorities described the recovery as a major success for security agencies, particularly given the heightened alert across the country during Republic Day events. Large public gatherings and ceremonial parades are closely monitored during the period due to potential security threats.
