Indian National Among Four Killed in Georgia Shooting Linked to Family Dispute

An Indian national was among four people killed in a shooting linked to an alleged family dispute in the United States state of Georgia, the Indian mission in Atlanta confirmed on Friday.

The incident occurred in the city of Lawrenceville during the early hours of the morning. Local media reported that four adults were fatally shot inside a residence while three children were present in the home at the time of the attack.

In a statement shared on social media, the Indian mission said it was deeply grieved by the tragic incident and confirmed that an Indian national was among the victims. The mission added that the alleged shooter had been arrested and that all possible assistance was being extended to the bereaved family.

Authorities identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar, a fifty one year old man from Atlanta. Gwinnett County police named the victims as Kumar’s wife Meemu Dogra, aged forty three, Gourav Kumar, aged thirty three, Nidhi Chander, aged thirty seven, and Harish Chander, aged thirty eight.

According to police, officers responded to an emergency call at around half past two in the morning at a residence on Brook Ivy Court. Upon arrival, they found the bodies of four adults inside the home, all of whom had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Three children were inside the house during the shooting. Police said the children hid in a closet to protect themselves, and one of them managed to call emergency services, providing information that allowed officers to reach the scene within minutes. The children were unharmed and were later taken into the care of a family member.

Kumar has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including aggravated assault, felony murder, malice murder, and cruelty to children. Investigators said the case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the killings.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, while Indian officials said they remain in contact with local authorities and the victims’ relatives to provide support during the aftermath of the tragedy.
