Ikeja Electric Plc has clarified that its recent directive on customer data updates, linked to the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, applies strictly to corporate customers, vendors, and strategic business partners.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the electricity distribution company explained that electricity bills without valid identification details under the Nigeria Tax Act (2025) will be considered invalid. Acceptable identification includes Tax Identification Number (TIN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number, or National Identification Number (NIN).
The company said the initiative is part of efforts to comply with new tax regulations and strengthen internal risk management systems through its Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business Customer (KYCB) processes.
“The notice applies strictly to corporate customers, as well as our vendors and strategic business partners,” Ikeja Electric stated. “This initiative supports compliance requirements under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and related regulations.”
Under the NTA 2025, supplier invoices, including those issued by Ikeja Electric, must carry prescribed details, such as Ikeja Electric’s Tax ID and CAC registration number. The Nigeria Revenue Service implementation framework requires these invoices to be uploaded and validated on the NRS portal, where the customer’s Tax ID is mandatory for processing and verification.
Ikeja Electric assured affected clients that the update and validation process would be seamless and emphasized that there would be no disruption to electricity supply. Corporate customers are urged to submit the required information via the link provided in the company’s notice.
