The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance centre in Lagos will significantly reduce crime and enhance police service delivery in 2026.
Egbetokun made the remarks during an inspection of the facility on Monday, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to implement technology-driven policing and strengthen the command’s security architecture.
According to the police chief, the surveillance centre is expected to improve intelligence gathering, accelerate response times, and support effective crime prevention and detection. He praised the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, and other partners involved in the construction and commissioning of the centre, emphasizing that collaboration is key to sustainable security outcomes.
“As we move into 2026, I expect better service delivery from the police. We will improve on what we achieved in the previous year,” Egbetokun stated, adding that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to continuous improvement.
He further explained that the adoption of modern surveillance technology would help lower crime rates and rebuild public confidence in the police, urging officers to use the facility effectively in line with global best practices.
The CCTV Surveillance Centre, activated on January 14 by Commissioner of Police Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, is fully built and equipped by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Works. The facility provides real-time monitoring of strategic locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, surrounding waterways, and other key areas within the Lagos Island axis.
The initiative is aimed at proactively preventing crime and enhancing the protection of lives and property, reflecting the force’s commitment to professionalism, efficiency, and improved security nationwide.
