The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has expressed profound shock over the death of his Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative), Dr. Dunkwu Chamberlain Nnamdi.
Dunkwu, who hailed from Uteh Okpu in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, March 7, 2026. He was set to celebrate his 55th birthday on March 21.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas described the death as “shocking and devastating.” He recalled that Dunkwu remained committed to duty until his passing, noting that he had joined colleagues for breaking of fast just hours before his death.
“Dr. Chamberlain was not just my Deputy Chief of Staff; he was a dependable and committed ally who served diligently until his last breath. He lived a life of service to humanity and his country,” Abbas said. The Speaker also visited Dunkwu’s family to offer condolences and prayers for strength during the difficult time.
Dr. Dunkwu Chamberlain Nnamdi had served as Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative) since June 26, 2023. Prior to this, he was Special Adviser on Members’ Affairs to the Speaker of the 9th House and Chief of Staff to President Femi Gbajabiamila.
A respected sports administrator, Dunkwu was President of the Nigerian Aquatics Federation, a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress, and a Knight of the Anglican Communion, Asaba Diocese. His contributions to governance, sports, and public service leave a lasting legacy of dedication, selflessness, and commitment.
The House of Representatives and the nation mourn the loss of a devoted public servant whose impact will be remembered by colleagues, family, and the wider community.
