The annual amfAR Gala, a highlight of the Cannes Film Festival, took place at the prestigious Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, drawing a constellation of celebrities committed to supporting AIDS research. Hosted by actress Demi Moore, the event featured a star-studded red carpet with attendees such as Adrien Brody, Spike Lee, Colman Domingo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez, and Heidi Klum.
The evening’s program seamlessly blended entertainment with philanthropy. Musical performances by Ciara, Adam Lambert, and Duran Duran energized the guests, while a Bond-themed fashion show curated by Carine Roitfeld added a touch of glamour. The auction showcased exclusive items, including a Dodge Charger from “Fast X,” luxury Chopard earrings, and artwork by Adrien Brody and James Franco. A painting by George Condo fetched 1.15 million euros, and a surprise package from director Spike Lee, featuring a film walk-on role and courtside Knicks tickets, sold for 400,000 euros.
The gala’s significance was underscored by concerns over recent U.S. budget cuts under President Donald Trump, which had reduced global funding for AIDS prevention and research. Michelle Rodriguez emphasized the increasing importance of amfAR’s advocacy and treatment initiatives, while Taraji P. Henson, hosting the event, criticized avoidable deaths due to the funding shortfall. The United Nations AIDS agency had previously warned that without restored funding, global HIV infections could rise dramatically.
Since its inception in 1985, amfAR has raised nearly $950 million for HIV/AIDS research and advocacy. The gala remains a central fundraising event, combining celebrity engagement with substantial contributions to a vital cause.
The amfAR Gala continues to be a beacon of hope, uniting the entertainment industry in the fight against AIDS and highlighting the critical need for sustained support and funding.
