Hillary Clinton has accused the administration of Donald Trump of engaging in a cover up over its handling of documents related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaking to the BBC in Berlin during the annual World Forum, Clinton said the administration was slow walking the release of files connected to Epstein. “Get the files out,” she said, arguing that full transparency was necessary.

Earlier this month, the United States Department of Justice released millions of pages of documents tied to investigations into Epstein. However, officials confirmed that roughly three million additional pages were withheld due to sensitive material, including medical records, graphic depictions of child abuse and information that could jeopardise ongoing investigations.

The White House rejected Clinton’s criticism, stating that by releasing thousands of pages and cooperating with congressional requests, the administration had done more for victims than Democrats ever had.

The controversy has also drawn in former president Bill Clinton, who is mentioned in the files. Both Clintons have agreed to testify before a congressional committee after initially resisting. A planned vote to hold them in contempt of Congress was shelved following their agreement. Hillary Clinton has called for the hearing to be conducted publicly rather than behind closed doors, saying the couple has nothing to hide.

Clinton also addressed renewed scrutiny of Prince Andrew, who has denied wrongdoing and previously reached an out of court settlement with accuser Virginia Giuffre.

Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His case continues to reverberate through American politics, with both Democrats and Republicans facing scrutiny over past associations.
