African entertainment industry has witnessed significant developments across various sectors, highlighting the continent’s dynamic cultural landscape.

In May 2025, South African actor Presley Chweneyagae, renowned for his role in the Oscar-winning film “Tsotsi,” tragically passed away at the age of 40. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues, underscoring his impact on South African cinema.

On the music front, Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has been making waves internationally. In March 2025, she was announced as a lead actress in the Hollywood adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel, “Children of Blood and Bone.” This casting choice highlights the growing influence of African artists in global entertainment.

In the realm of digital media, TikTok South Africa has partnered with entertainment commentator Phil Mphela to launch “African All Stars,” a new series aimed at showcasing African talent and stories. This initiative reflects the platform’s commitment to amplifying African voices and narratives.

In the music scene, Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo was appointed as the Senior Presidential Adviser on Creatives by President Yoweri Museveni in August 2024. This role aims to bolster Uganda’s creative industry, highlighting the government’s recognition of the sector’s economic and cultural importance.
