Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly killed a young medical doctor, Tahir Abu Emhoye, days after he was abducted alongside his elder brother in Auchi, Edo State. The tragic incident has deepened concerns over rising insecurity in the area.

The brothers were kidnapped on the evening of January 1, 2026, along City Pride Road in the Igbira Camp area of Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area. They were said to be returning home from work when the attackers struck at the gate of their residence.

The deceased, Tahir Abu Emhoye, was a fresh medical graduate of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. He was also known on campus for his leadership roles, having previously served as Director of Sports in the Students’ Union Government. His elder brother, Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, is currently undergoing his medical housemanship at the Edo University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, and remains in captivity.

Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly contacted the family on January 3, demanding a ransom of N200 million for the release of the victims. Days later, news emerged that Tahir had been killed.

Security agencies, who had been combing surrounding bushes and forests in search of the abducted brothers, discovered the lifeless body of the young doctor near a riverside. Family members later identified the body as one of the kidnapped victims.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the development, stating that investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to rescue the surviving abductee and bring those responsible to justice. The killing has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stronger security measures to curb kidnapping in the region.
