Gunmen have reportedly attacked the Old Oyo National Park located in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of Oyo State, leaving some people feared dead.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, involved heavy gunfire at the national park. As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of casualties had not been disclosed.
The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the attack, stating that security agencies had been mobilised to respond swiftly to the situation.
In a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday afternoon, Ayanlade said the assailants, whose identities remain unknown, carried out the attack against personnel of the national park.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Femi Haruna, alongside other security chiefs, was already on the way to the affected area to assess the situation and coordinate response efforts.
According to him, tactical teams of the Nigeria Police Force, including Mobile Police Force officers and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, have been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Security agencies are expected to provide more details as operations continue at the scene.
