Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has praised the Federal Government for its commitment to addressing the security challenges in the North-West Zone through the establishment of the Joint Military Command and the launch of Operation Fansan Yamma. Governor Sani shared his views in a statement on his verified Facebook page after meeting with the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, in his office.
During the courtesy visit, Governor Sani urged the Defence Minister to consider integrating Operation Safe Haven in Southern Kaduna under the jurisdiction of the 1 Division, Kaduna, to strengthen security efforts. He also commended the progress made in setting up Operation Safe Corridor in the North-West Zone.
The Governor emphasized the need for collaboration among Northern states to effectively tackle the region‘s security challenges. He called for the development of a unified strategy and operational plan, alongside the establishment of a Command and Control Centre to coordinate efforts against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
“We must go beyond the kinetic approach,” Governor Sani stated, advocating for an enhanced focus on supporting security forces and improving localized intelligence systems. He highlighted the importance of stimulating investment, developing agriculture and agri-business, expanding rural infrastructure, and broadening access to education and healthcare as crucial steps in combating insecurity. Additionally, he stressed the need to foster community engagement and promote inclusivity among all citizens.
Governor Sani also expressed support for the North-West Development Commission, which he sees as a significant initiative in addressing the underlying causes of insecurity in the region. He emphasized the importance of creating a comprehensive development plan, describing it as a “Marshall Plan” for the North-West that must be people-driven and inclusive.
He further noted that the success of the North-West Development Commission would depend on the integrity, knowledge, and innovation of its leaders, emphasizing that there should be no tolerance for incompetence or sluggishness in its operations.
