Governor Nwifuru Warns 11500 EBSU Students Against Cultism and Exam Malpractice

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has cautioned 11500 newly matriculated students of Ebonyi State University to steer clear of cultism examination malpractice and other social vices warning that offenders will face expulsion.

The warning was delivered during the 28th matriculation ceremony held at the university permanent site in Ezzangbo located in Ohaukwu Local Government Area over the weekend. The ceremony marked the largest student intake since the creation of Ebonyi State in 1996.

Represented by the Commissioner for Education Dr Donatus Ilang Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration commitment to advancing quality education in the state. He outlined several interventions introduced to reposition the institution including increased monthly subvention salary increments for staff infrastructure development and settlement of outstanding debts.

According to the governor students must remain focused on their academic pursuits as that is the core purpose of their admission into the university. He stressed that any behavior capable of disrupting their education will not be tolerated under his administration.

The Vice Chancellor Prof Michael Ugota urged lecturers to remain dedicated to mentoring students with discipline and integrity. He also encouraged students to uphold strong moral values and avoid actions that could tarnish their image or that of the institution.

Prof Ugota disclosed that the university has successfully eradicated cultism and other social vices on campus. He added that firm measures have been implemented to eliminate examination malpractice sexual harassment and extortion. He further revealed that five out of seven recently reviewed programs have secured full accreditation.

Highlighting technological advancement the Vice Chancellor noted that the institution is now fully digitalized enabling students to access services and pay fees online. He commended Governor Nwifuru for prioritizing education emphasizing that sustained investment in the university will deliver lasting benefits for the state.
