The Ghana Football Association has dismissed head coach Otto Addo just hours after a friendly defeat to Germany, with the World Cup now just over 70 days away.

Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, suffered a 2:1 loss in Stuttgart on Monday, with Germany securing victory through a late goal from Deniz Undav. The result marked a fourth consecutive defeat for Addo’s side, following a heavy 5:1 loss to Austria the previous week.

In an official statement, the Ghana Football Association expressed appreciation for Addo’s efforts, stating that it “sincerely thanks Otto Addo for his contribution” and wished him success in his future endeavors. The body added that it will announce a new technical direction for the team in due course.

Addo, 50, had been in charge since March 2024 but faced mounting pressure after a string of poor results leading up to the global tournament.

Ghana is set to compete in the upcoming World Cup in North America, where they have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

The timing of the decision raises concerns about the team’s preparation, as the Black Stars now face the task of appointing a new coach and ilizing performance ahead of the tournament.

With limited time remaining, the focus will be on quickly rebuilding confidence and form as Ghana aims to make an impact on the world stage.
