The Kogi State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammed Gambo, has joined other well-meaning Nigerians across the country in commemorating the Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day, paying glowing tribute to fallen heroes and heroines who laid down their lives in service to the nation.

In a statement released on Thursday, Gambo described the sacrifices of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces as invaluable, noting that their commitment and patriotism have remained central to the survival, unity, and stability of Nigeria. He stressed that the courage displayed by these servicemen and women should continue to inspire national unity and collective responsibility.

The PDP chairman also called on governments at all levels to do more in supporting the families left behind by fallen military personnel. According to him, beyond ceremonial observances, there is a moral obligation to ensure that the dependents of those who paid the ultimate price are adequately cared for and supported.

“As we honour these brave men and women, let us collectively shun tendencies that inflame passions in our polity,” Gambo stated. He urged Nigerians to embrace peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, warning against divisive rhetoric that threatens national cohesion.

Gambo further emphasized the need to celebrate Nigeria’s diversity, describing it as a strength rather than a weakness. He called on leaders and citizens alike to lower the temperature of inflammatory discourse and to focus on addressing the root causes of social tensions that have fueled separatist agitations in different parts of the country.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Gambo reminded Nigerians not to forget the families of the fallen heroes. He urged the nation to give them reasons to feel proud, reassuring them that their loved ones did not die in vain but for causes greater than individual interests.
