The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, has reiterated the institution’s strict academic and moral standards, warning that students who fail to meet the minimum 75 per cent class attendance will not be allowed to sit for examinations.

Professor Akinwumi made this known on Friday during the 14th matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students of the university. Addressing the fresh intakes, he emphasized that class attendance is compulsory and not a matter of choice.

“Please note that any student with less than 75 per cent class attendance shall not be eligible to sit for examinations at the end of each semester. Attendance is not optional; it is mandatory,” he stated. He also cautioned students against examination misconduct and malpractice, stressing that the university operates a zero-tolerance policy on such offences, with severe penalties attached.

The Vice-Chancellor further reminded students that university life comes with a high level of responsibility, discipline, and accountability. According to him, students are expected to take their academic pursuits seriously and conduct themselves in a manner befitting members of the institution.

He also warned against drug abuse and substance use, describing them as destructive habits that can ruin lives and jeopardize future aspirations. “These are corrosive habits that destroy lives and futures,” he said.

For the 2025/2026 academic session, Professor Akinwumi disclosed that a total of 9,097 students were successfully matriculated after meeting the requirements set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and passing the university’s screening exercise. He noted that the figure reflects the competitive nature of FUL’s admission process and its commitment to merit, quality, and academic excellence.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor urged students to maintain high standards of decency, comply strictly with the approved dress code, and remain security conscious by reporting any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
