Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on his supporters to remain calm amid recent political developments in the state, assuring them that events will ultimately work in his favour.

The governor made the appeal on Thursday while speaking at the New Year banquet held at the Government House in Port Harcourt. Using a metaphor, Fubara suggested that noise and agitation often come from those who do not fully understand the situation.

According to him, he is confident about the direction of his administration and believes the political journey ahead will be smooth. He further assured his supporters that all necessary structures are already in place to secure victory in his bid for a second term in office.

“Don’t be disturbed by what is happening,” the governor said. “Caesar once said that the only reason a dog barks is when it doesn’t understand. If a dog in your house knows you, it doesn’t need to bark. When a dog starts barking, it may be seeing something it doesn’t understand.”

Fubara added that his camp is not alarmed by ongoing political tensions because they are clear about their objectives and strategy. “We are not barking because we understand. We know where we are going, and we have put everything in place to make the journey smooth,” he stated.

The governor’s remarks come against the backdrop of renewed tensions between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Wike had recently stated that what he described as a leadership mistake in Rivers State would be corrected in the 2027 general election.

Despite the growing political rivalry, Fubara maintained an optimistic tone, urging his supporters to stay focused and undistracted as events continue to unfold.
