The Federal Road Safety Corps has warned that any officer found engaging in extortion, reckless enforcement, or other unethical practices will face strict disciplinary action. The warning was issued by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, on Tuesday in Ibadan during a sensitisation programme titled “Discipline Reinforcement and Strengthening of Command and Control in Field Commands.”

Represented by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed noted that recent observations revealed a decline in discipline, professionalism, and effective command and control in some field commands. He emphasized that misconduct, abuse of authority, and unethical practices erode public trust and undermine the credibility of the corps.

“Every act of unprofessional conduct damages the image of thousands of disciplined staff. Our authority flows directly from public trust, and once that trust is compromised, our effectiveness is compromised,” Mohammed said. He described the programme as a corrective measure aimed at reorientation and reinforcement rather than a witch hunt.

The Corps Marshal called on commanding officers to actively supervise, mentor, and correct officers promptly, warning that silence in the face of wrongdoing amounts to complicity. He stressed that going forward, discipline will be strengthened, accountability enforced, ethical standards upheld, commendable conduct rewarded, and violations sanctioned with fairness and firmness.

The FRSC Oyo Sector Commander, Mrs Rosemary Alo, described the programme as strategic, highlighting that discipline is the foundation of any paramilitary organisation. She encouraged officers to adhere to the core values of professionalism, integrity, transparency, and accountability while urging the public to use FRSC mobile apps to report incidents and engage with the corps.
