Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress ADC.

Kwankwaso registered as a member and received his party card on Monday at Gidan Kwankwasiyya on Miller Road in Bompai, Kano. The move marks a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of upcoming elections.

The event attracted several prominent political figures including former Senate President David Mark, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Senator Dino Melaye, and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, John Odigie-Oyegun.

Speaking at the occasion, Kwankwaso expressed optimism about contributing to the growth and influence of the ADC in both Kano State and nationally. Party leaders welcomed him, emphasizing the strategic advantage his membership brings in consolidating political alliances and strengthening the party’s presence in northern Nigeria.

Political analysts have noted that Kwankwaso’s move could signal realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and may influence voter sentiment in Kano and other northern states. The ADC is expected to leverage Kwankwaso’s extensive political experience and grassroots support to expand its reach and competitiveness.

This transition adds to the growing trend of high profile politicians cing party affiliations in Nigeria, reflecting the dynamic nature of the country’s political landscape as parties prepare for future elections.

Kwankwaso’s defection is being closely watched across the country, with political observers anticipating further strategic moves from both the NNPP and ADC in response.
