Former APC Presidential Aspirant, SKC Ogbonnia, Dumps Party Over Tinubu’s Leadership

A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Enugu State, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, has resigned his membership of the ruling party, citing what he described as failed leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ogbonnia made his decision known in a resignation letter addressed to the APC chairman of his Owelli/Amoli/Ugbo/Ogugu ward in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. The letter, dated Tuesday, was copied to all levels of the party structure, from the ward to the national leadership, and accompanied by his APC membership card.

According to Ogbonnia, his resignation followed extensive consultations with his family and political allies, as well as deep reflection on the current political situation in Nigeria and the direction of the APC. He recalled that he joined the party as a founding member with high hopes for national transformation, but said those expectations have been dashed by recent developments.

In the letter, Ogbonnia accused President Tinubu’s administration of failing to address critical national challenges such as insecurity, poverty, and unemployment, which he said have continued to threaten the future of Nigerian youths. He also alleged widespread lack of internal party democracy, accusing the APC of imposing leaders, marginalising loyal members, and promoting nepotism and vendetta politics.

The former aspirant further claimed that the ruling party is pursuing a one-party state by suppressing opposition voices. He criticised what he described as poor youth inclusion in key federal appointments and alleged that the government’s handling of security issues has compromised Nigeria’s sovereignty, exposing the country to foreign military intervention.

Ogbonnia also condemned alleged moves to endorse President Tinubu for a second term in 2027, describing such plans as an insult to Nigerians. He concluded that the APC no longer represents democratic values or good governance and wished the party well in its future endeavours.
