he Kogi State sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has attributed a fatal motor accident on the Lokoja–Abuja highway to wrongful overtaking. The crash, which occurred on Tuesday, claimed the lives of five people and left seven others injured.

The accident involved a Toyota Avensis car owned by Omala Local Government (registration Kogi BJK172LG) and a Sino truck belonging to Dangote Cement Plc (registration BBR719SA). According to the FRSC, the vehicles collided head-on, resulting in immediate deaths at the scene, including three children—two girls and a boy.

A total of 12 people were involved in the crash, with seven occupants sustaining injuries ranging from fractures and bruises to other serious trauma. FRSC officials recovered four hand-held phones from the scene and handed over the vehicles and other belongings to the Ajaokuta Division of the police.

In its statement, the FRSC urged motorists to avoid speeding and wrongful overtaking, especially on highways, warning that such behaviors remain major contributors to fatal road crashes.

The agency also highlighted that highway accidents have increasingly claimed lives in Kogi State. The latest incident follows a December 2025 crash along the Ejule–Enugu highway, which left 12 people dead and two others injured, underscoring ongoing concerns about road safety in the state.
