The Federal Government has commended the Governor of Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State for strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training across the state following the graduation of about 3000 trainees from nine Vocational Enterprise Institutes and Centres.
The commendation was contained in a statement released on Sunday by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education. The statement highlighted the Federal Government’s appreciation of the state government’s commitment to equipping youths with practical ss.
According to the statement, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a major step toward empowering young Nigerians with practical and employable ss that can help them become self reliant and productive members of society.
He noted that the programme reflects the focus of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises youth empowerment and economic inclusion through ss development and vocational education.
The statement further revealed that the graduates were provided with starter packs to help them begin their trades after completing the programme. In addition, each beneficiary received an entrepreneurship grant of one hundred thousand naira to support their transition into productive economic activities and small business development.
Alausa explained that the Federal Government is currently implementing a nationwide Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme designed to provide about 250000 training opportunities for young Nigerians. He disclosed that more than 180000 youths are already undergoing training in centres across the country under the initiative.
He added that the training model focuses on eighty percent practical training and twenty percent theoretical instruction to ensure trainees acquire hands on experience that meets industry needs.
The minister also disclosed that a national TVET job portal is being developed to connect sed graduates with employment opportunities and provide artisans with starter packs as well as access to affordable loans.
He reaffirmed that the Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to expanding ss development programmes aimed at strengthening youth empowerment and promoting sustainable economic growth in Nigeria.
