The Federal Government has confirmed that all group stage bonuses due to Super Eagles players at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations have been fully processed and are expected to reflect in their domiciliary accounts within hours.
The disclosure was made by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, following reports that the national team had threatened to boycott training sessions and potentially delay travel to Marrakesh for their quarter-final clash against Algeria over unpaid bonuses.
In a statement on her official X handle, Uzoka-Anite said coordinated efforts by the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had ensured the timely processing of all payments. “All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages,” she stated.
The minister added that a fast-track conversion process had been implemented to accommodate players’ preferences for foreign currency payments. “The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow,” she explained.
Uzoka-Anite emphasised that the government’s priority remains the welfare and morale of the Super Eagles, assuring that off-field issues would not distract the team as they progress in the knockout stages. “Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the tournament,” she said.
The announcement is expected to reassure players, fans, and stakeholders ahead of the quarter-final fixture, ensuring that administrative concerns do not interfere with Nigeria’s campaign for the AFCON 2025 title.
