The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has confirmed that the federal government has initiated the payment of a 300% salary increase for judicial officers across Nigeria. Fagbemi made this announcement during the 12th Convocation ceremony of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) on Monday in Ekiti State.
The Minister highlighted that the salary review is one of the key interventions under the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He stated, “I am pleased to report that a major intervention of the Tinubu administration in the judiciary is the recent 300% upward review of the remuneration of judicial officers in Nigeria across the board. I can confirm that the implementation of this has begun in earnest.”
Fagbemi also outlined the federal government’s plan to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of Nigeria’s laws to address the country’s evolving needs. This review aims to modernize and adapt the legal framework to better suit contemporary social, economic, and political challenges.
He explained, “We have assembled a team of legal experts to achieve this within a very limited timeframe. This law review intervention will cut across all aspects of our social, economic, and political life.”
The Minister’s statements underscore the government’s commitment to supporting the judiciary and reforming the legal landscape, with the salary increase serving as a step toward enhancing the welfare of judicial officers and ensuring a more effective justice system.
