The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has uncovered a suspected child trafficking operation disguised as an orphanage in the Saburi area of Abuja. The discovery followed a petition from community members on January 29, 2026, raising concerns about suspicious activities at the facility.

Preliminary investigations suggest the orphanage targeted children from rural communities, offering education and promises of a better life in urban areas, but allegedly facilitated the transfer of minors to other locations. So far, 21 of 46 children linked to the operation have been rescued and are undergoing safe reunification with their families. Authorities continue efforts to locate the remaining children and apprehend all individuals involved.
